How to book

Five steps from first email to the guide's phone number in your hand, with what we need from you at each one and what you get back.

How to book

The five steps

  1. You send an enquiry. The month, the number of people, how many nights, one thing you refuse to miss and one thing you are worried about. Four lines is plenty.
  2. We reply within one working day with a route, a per-person price, the hotels named, and at least one thing we think you should change about your plan.
  3. You push back. Most itineraries change twice, and neither round costs anything or commits you to anything.
  4. You pay a 25 percent deposit and we confirm the hotels, guide and vehicle. The balance is due 21 days before you arrive.
  5. Two weeks out you get final documents: a day-by-day file, your guide's name and number, pick-up times, and the 24-hour Cambodian line.
What we need from you before the deposit

Full names exactly as they appear in your passports, passport numbers and nationalities, arrival and departure flight numbers, and anything medical or dietary that changes how a day should be built. That is all.

What a good first enquiry looks like

You do not need to have chosen an itinerary. About half of what we run is built from scratch and most of the rest is one of the eight published routes with two days changed.

  • The month, or exact dates if you have them. This changes the itinerary more than anything else you can tell us.
  • The number of travellers, with ages if anyone is under twelve or over seventy-five.
  • How many nights Cambodia gets, and whether that is fixed or negotiable.
  • Where you are arriving from and leaving to, if you already know.
  • One thing you refuse to miss, and one thing you are worried about. The worry is the more useful of the two and almost nobody includes it.

The reply you get back will be a plan and an argument, not a brochure.

Deposit, balance and what they commit

StageAmountWhenWhat it does
Deposit25 percentOn confirmationCommits your hotels, guide and vehicle for the dates
Balance75 percent21 days before arrivalReleases final documents and pays suppliers
Balance in cash75 percentOn arrival, if you preferUS dollars, against a numbered receipt

Bank transfer costs you only your own bank's fee. Card payments through the link we send carry the processor's charge of about 3 percent, shown separately and passed on at cost. We do not mark up payment fees.

Full method detail, including the bank account and the anti-fraud checks worth doing, is on how to pay.

Changes and cancellations, in plain terms

Before the balance is due, changes are free and frequent. Swapping a hotel, adding a night, reversing the direction, or removing a site costs the difference in supplier cost and nothing else.

After the balance, changes depend on individual hotel terms, which we pass on unchanged rather than adding an administration fee to.

Cancellation is graduated by how far out you are, from a full refund minus committed supplier costs at more than 30 days, down to nothing under 48 hours. The exact table is on booking terms and it is short enough to read.

What arrives before you fly

  • A day-by-day file with times, drives, hotels and phone numbers, as a PDF you can use offline.
  • Your guide's name and mobile number, and the driver's, for each leg.
  • The 24-hour Cambodian support number, answered by a person who can authorise spending.
  • Hotel confirmations in your own name, so you are never dependent on us to check in.
  • A short note on anything that has changed since you booked, including flight schedule shifts we have spotted before you have.

If a substitution has been necessary, it is in that note with what it cost or saved. If it saved money, the difference is refunded without you having to ask.

Booking a specific tour rather than an enquiry

Every tour page has a Book now button in the right-hand column. It asks for the tour, the date you want to start, how many travellers, and which option you want, and it reaches the same people as an email. Use it when you know what you want; use the enquiry form when you do not.

Either way, nothing is charged at that point. A booking request is a request; the deposit invoice comes after we have confirmed availability on your dates.

Send the four lines

Month, party, nights, and the thing you refuse to miss. A reply within one working day, with a route and a price.

Send an enquiry

Insurance, which is a condition

Travel insurance covering medical treatment and repatriation is a condition of booking. We ask for the policy number before departure and we do not inspect the policy, which is your business.

We do not sell insurance. Selling it would give us a financial interest in which policy you buy, and the whole argument of this site is that we do not have those interests. Two things worth checking in your own policy: whether it covers riding a motorbike, which most exclude, and whether it covers medical evacuation to Bangkok, which is where serious cases go from Cambodia.

Common questions

Questions travellers ask most

How much deposit do you take?

25 percent to confirm, with the balance due 21 days before arrival or payable in cash on arrival if you prefer. The deposit is what commits your hotels, guide and vehicle for those dates.

How far ahead should I book?

Three to four months for November to February if you want particular hotels; a month is enough for everything else in that season. For May to September, three weeks out is often fine and you lose nothing by waiting.

Can I change the itinerary after booking?

Freely until the balance is due, and after that subject to individual hotel terms, which we pass on unchanged. We do not charge an administration fee for changes.

What if my flight is delayed or cancelled?

Call the 24-hour number. Your driver tracks the flight and will be there whenever you land. If a delay costs you a night or an excursion we rebuild the following days and refund anything we recover from suppliers.
